3 Easy Tips For Glossy Hair That Will Shine To The Stars
When we need a hairstyle pick-me-up, we quickly load up our Pinterest and search for “mid-length haircut styles” or “are subtle blue highlights a thing”. Before taking a potentially big step in changing your hair, look up #glossyhair – be warned: you won’t be able to stop scrolling. Following these 3 easy tips for glossier and shinier locks will satisfy your quarterly craving for attention-grabbing hair.
1. Clarify Your Locks
Let’s be real – when we have just a few minutes to shower before getting on Zoom, we’re not spending the time to really get all the guck and grime out from our hair. Product build up and residue from the day – oil, dust, lint, pet hair, pollution – causes dull hair strands. Use a gentle clarifying treatment like Ouai Detox Shampoo (with ACV for lifting away dirt) or Drunk Elephant Cocomino Glossing Shampoo. Emphasis on gentle because harsh clarifying shampoos can strip hair of moisture. Leave the treatment on for a few minutes, rinse thoroughly and while in the shower, run a comb through your mane to get rid of any lingering broken strands. This process starts your hair at a squeaky clean slate.
2. Condition It Up
Don’t leave the shower just yet – following up with a glossy conditioner is where the shine is at. You don’t need to wait to go to your salon for the “add-on glaze” special. Use dpHUE Color Boosting Gloss + Deep Conditioning Treatment (available in transparent) for an easy at-home gloss treatment, leaving it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinsing off. If your hair is damaged from color treatment, use a hair mask like the Colleen Rothschild Quench & Shine Restorative Mask weekly to bring it back to life. Bonus tip: this will suck but we promise it’s worth it - let really cold water run down your locks for 30 seconds to seal in that shine you’ve achieved.
3. Extra Shine, Please
The shine doesn’t stop there. On damp-to-dry hair, follow up with a gloss spray or hair oil like Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine or L’ange Miracle Lightweight Conditioning Shine Spray. Using Aussie Hair Insurance Heat Protecting Shine Spray with added heat protection will also protect your hair from damaging flatirons and curling wands that will restart the vicious cycle of dullness. Remember to keep any product away from the roots to prevent excessive buildup. Extend the time in between washes – over washing your hair can actually strip away the natural oils that make it silky and healthy.
