5 Hydrating Face Masks for Dry Gator Skin
What is it about the cold months in the Northeast (yes, looking at you March) that causes skin to crack and flake like a scaly…yellowfish? It has to do with a little annoying pest called humidity. Basically, when the air outside is cold and dry, the water in our skin evaporates faster than usual. This makes skin feel dry, tight, and flaky = “gator skin”. Contrary to our former beliefs, running into a hot bath or shower to defrost after a couple of hours of being in what feels like Antarctica, can actually strip skin of healthy oils and suck the moisture right out.
Now that we gave you the bad news first, the good news is that you can save yourself from looking like a croc by face-masking two or three times a week in the winter. We are enjoying the crap out of the following moisturizing face masks:
1. Glow Recipe – Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Mask
We love a good sleeping mask because it does all of the work while our skin is in rest mode (or in a food coma). This mask has a rich creamy texture and includes beneficial ingredients such as avocado and manuka honey. While you may not be able to eat this delicious “recipe”, your skin will gobble it up! The good-for-you ingredients in this mask are formulated to provide extra hydration and support natural collagen, while soothing and brightening dry skin.
2. First Aid Beauty – Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask
This mask is perfect to add to your winter arsenal because it is jam-packed with shea butter for hydration and oatmeal to combat irritation and redness. We noticed it starts to work immediately and stays true to its “ultra repair” quality. You can leave it on for 10 minutes, enough time for the botanical antioxidants to do their thing on your dry skin.
Ever feel like lathering your face up with some creamy ice-cream? No? It’s just us then. Now you can with this mask which feels, smells and looks like mint ice cream! The cooling formula helps your skin to achieve that desirable glow and unlike the sugary dessert, this mask is full of nutrients. Added bonus: it’s 100% cruelty-free and paraben-free.
4. Olay – Hydrating Overnight Gel Mask
This gel mask is perfect for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin and contains niacinamide to tame any redness and provide hydration. “Nia-say-what”?! Nia-cina-mide, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin that helps visibly minimize enlarged pores, improve uneven skin tone and diminish dullness. You can apply it at night and wake up to a youthful glow without messing up your sheets!
5. Fresh – Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask
Be careful so you don’t end up spreading this mask on your toast because it can be confused with homemade orange jam! It smells delicious. Its contents include crushed oranges and lemons fresh from the Mediterranean along with vitamins C, E, and B5 to boost clarity in your skin. You can use this mask up to three times a week for softer and brighter skin. We suggest replacing your morning OJ with this nectar.
