We Tried Light-Weight Mascaras For Curling Effect

Eyelash products that volumize are available in an abundance because who doesn’t love a defined eye look. But, what about that gravity-defying curl that leaves barely any space between your lashes and brows? Your lashes will never fall flat again. Here are the best curling mascaras we love:

First Time

Dana: Looking through the “eye makeup” section of my vanity, I have at least 10 mascaras. If I look at them closely, 9/10 are for volume and definition and the remaining one is for length. To my surprise, I never consciously thought to pay attention to my lashes being flat until now – I mean, isn’t it all about volume, volume, volume? I’ve only had one goal for my mascara: to make sure my lashes look thick and noticeable. So I’ve totally neglected the curl. I tried the Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling Mascara (my first time with any Benefit eye product) and immediately fell in love with the brush. This brush has the tiniest bristles that hooked onto each lash and with some wrist work, curled and lifted my lashes. I didn’t know my lashes could get that much height! Because it’s lightweight, I applied two coats. The wear lasted 8 hours (likely would’ve been longer but bed time calls) and was easily removable with my makeup remover, without any aggressive rubbing and subsequent raccoon eyes.

With Eyelash Extensions

Sana: Because of my eyelash extensions, I’m very picky about what I put on them. I usually get a classic set, instead of volume lashes, because it doesn’t have much weight to it and is more manageable for me. It also allows me to continue wearing mascara without my lashes looking clumpy. I tried the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara and completely understand why it’s so beloved and popular. Initially, I was concerned with the castor seed oil in the mascara breaking down the hold of my extensions. But, a little goes a long way - I only applied one coat, getting all of the corners with the sleek brush. My extensions (and real lashes underneath) were curled, with strong staying power. I never feel safe using my lash curler on my extensions – this mascara does the job by providing that extra build and elevation. I can’t wait to try it as an alternative to my eyelash extensions.

Lash-Obsessed

Samera: If I could only wear one face product for the rest of my life, it would be any type of mascara. I never leave home without one or three. In honesty, even on my off days, I instinctively reach for it (until I realize I have nowhere to be). If you couldn’t already tell, I have tried many lash products over the years. Although, I despise lash lifts because something about the whole process just give me chills (sitting frozen with goo on my lashes). When it comes to getting that perfect curl effect, I prefer a super lightweight mascara that doesn’t feel heavy or chunky when applied in multiple coats. I recommend the Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara – it’s the trifecta for me: waterproof formula holds the curl longer, no flakiness, and maximum length. The brush is thicker (bulkier?) than I’m used to so I’ll apply my first coat with a thinner disposable brush, followed by another coat with this brush. It’s worth the price point for dramatically curled lashes that don’t look like tarantula legs.
